The bank is using the international forum in Miami to deepen dialogue with foreign financial institutions, payment companies and technology partners
One of the most significant international events for the financial industry, Sibos 2026, has opened in Miami, drawing banks, payment companies, fintech companies and financial infrastructure representatives from around the globe. Octobank is attending for the third year in succession, presenting its own solutions and international capabilities alongside the broader story of the transformation of Uzbekistan’s financial market.
The bank is represented at this year’s Sibos by its own 48 sq. m stand, which brings together exhibition and meeting areas in one space. The main emphasis is on face-to-face communication with international financial institutions and on discussing possible cooperation in correspondent banking, cross-border payments, clearing, foreign exchange operations, liquidity management and trade finance.
The concept underpinning Octobank’s international communication is:
“Uzbekistan — the New Silk Road of Digital Finance”
Historically, the Silk Road joined countries and markets by means of trade. Today, financial infrastructure, payment networks, technology and direct relationships between banks and other financial institutions are increasingly playing this role.
Taking part in Sibos allows Octobank to move this idea from the level of positioning to a practical business dialogue.
“Participation in SIBOS allows us to discuss cooperation directly with international partners. We see reciprocal interest in working with Octobank and are ready to respond to it with concrete proposals — digital solutions, expertise and experience in working with business. We expect that the dialogue started here will soon continue in joint projects,” remarked Hamid Jumaev, First Deputy Chairman of the Management Board of Octobank.
Uzbekistan Is Increasingly Visible on the World’s Financial Map
Octobank’s participation in Sibos is set against significant changes in Uzbekistan’s economy and financial sector. Rising international trade, a maturing digital economy and expanding cross-border business activity are bringing new demands to banking infrastructure. Uzbek companies are looking for broader access to international settlements, foreign exchange operations and payment instruments, and foreign financial institutions are looking for reliable partners that can support their operations in the local market. Octobank has been methodically developing this area. As of September 2026, the bank’s assets are valued at approximately USD 1.66 billion, it has a client base of over 4.9 million people, and its international infrastructure includes relationships with 19 correspondent banks and cooperation with more than 30 financial institutions.
Expanding its international settlement capabilities, including operations in US dollars, euros and Chinese yuan, is named by the bank as one of the priority directions for its further development.
Octobank’s participation in Sibos is therefore about much more than brand promotion. At its core is the development of the practical infrastructure that Uzbekistan’s further integration into the international financial system requires.
Turning Exhibition Presence into Business Relationships
Octobank’s stand is designed around a combination of business and image-building elements. A dedicated meeting area has been set up for talks with representatives of international banks, payment organizations and technology companies. It is here that specific areas of potential cooperation are explored, from correspondent relationships and clearing to cross-border payments and foreign exchange operations. In parallel, the open part of the stand acquaints Sibos participants not only with Octobank, but also with the Uzbekistan of today. National motifs are woven into the design, and guests are offered traditional Uzbek sweets and souvenirs. This way, a first acquaintance with the bank becomes an acquaintance with the country and its culture as well. Such an approach follows the overall logic of Octobank’s international positioning: introduce the global financial community to the opportunities of modern Uzbekistan, then show the bank’s role in its financial system, and then move on to a substantive business conversation.
Central Asia’s Financial Map Is Changing
For many years, the international financial community thought of Central Asia primarily as a region of remittances and commodity trade. The structure of the economy, though, is gradually being transformed. The development of e-commerce, the growth of foreign trade, the rise of new technology companies and the increasing international activity of local businesses are fueling demand for more sophisticated financial infrastructure. Today the issue is not only remittances, but also direct interbank relationships, international clearing, foreign exchange operations, digital payments and services for companies operating in several markets simultaneously. For Uzbekistan, this opens the possibility of gradually occupying a more prominent place in the financial flows between Central Asia, Asia, the Middle East and Europe. Octobank considers the development of international banking relationships to be one of the tools of this process. That is why the bank’s main goal at Sibos is not just to be present among the largest representatives of the global financial industry, but to build new working connections within this system.
Sibos as a Launchpad for Further Cooperation
Sibos 2026 has brought more than 10,000 participants from more than 160 countries to Miami. Topics at the center of this year’s discussions include the development of digital finance, artificial intelligence, cross-border payments and the future of global financial infrastructure. For Octobank, the main result of participation should not be the number of stand visitors or brand mentions, but the continuation of the dialogue once the forum has ended.
The bank expects the negotiations started in Miami to grow into further work with international financial institutions, payment companies and technology partners. In this sense, Sibos becomes part of the bank’s longer-term international development strategy. Octobank seeks not only to tell foreign audiences about Uzbekistan’s transformation, but also to build practical international connections that serve as confirmation of this transformation. This is the key idea behind the bank’s presence in Miami: the historical Silk Road connected countries through trade, while the modern Silk Road is increasingly being shaped by payments, technology and financial infrastructure.
